| Continued from page 6 7/28/02: Nothing too exciting until tonight. This morning Chance didn't act like she was feeling well. And she was just sort of blah all day. Well, we went to bed tonight, with it very hot outside and Chance laying in the yard. I woke up when a sudden thunderstorm hit. Dave and I went running out to cover Chance. I heard her whinny, and I shined the flashlight towards the sound, when what did we see? Chance was standing up! Then she whinnied again like, "Where the heck have you been? It's raining!" We got her taken care of with no problem. But all I could think was how proud I was of her, how funny and confused she looked, and I couldn't wait to get in here and write the news! Now I think I can go back to sleep, hehehe... G'nite all! 7/30/02: So sorry I didn't post yesterday, but there was really nothing new or exciting to tell. I thought MAYBE I could see a small improvement in Chance's breathing, but no today I'm sure. The meds are kicking in and the pneumonia is backing off. I do want to share a new photo. It might just be me, but I thought this was absolutely beautiful. Chance's eyes have such expression... 8/02/02: Not too much new news. I haven't been able to get into my site to work on it the last couple of days. I finally figured out that I had used up all my file storage, so it wouldn't let me do anything! Chance is taking up over half of my site now, hehehe! Did I decide to stop adding? NO! I upgraded to the premium package, so I now have more storage capacity. I couldn't just leave all you wonderful folks hanging. So the latest news is that Chance has been doing well the last few days. I think she really enjoys not getting poked in the butt twice a day! She's very happy to be drinking the meds with her milk. Her breathing is better, still sounds a bit rough, but it is sure a lot better than it was. And Chance's temp is staying down. Hair is growing back very well, where most of the pressure sores were. I'm only dealing with one last one now. I got some new photos that I thought you might like. Just CLICK HERE for a pageful. Dave brought a cold home to me from his last business trip (Thanks Honey!), and I catch everything that comes along, due to my immune system being so weak. BUT- this one hasn't gotten me down. I'm telling you, by the grace of God, and all of you, Chance and I are staying strong. I did just last week get rid of all the little critters- goats, piggy, and all but a handful of farm birds. Was just too much to take care of, with my health, and Chance requiring so much. I miss everyone dearly, but two friends took them, and it's one of those "If you ever want them back you know where they are" things. That makes me feel much better. And the workload is definitely noticably lighter here. Chance is keeping me plenty busy all by herself! 8/05/02: This weekend was good. Chance walked over 40 yards at a time, two different times. One time she was on such a roll that Dave and I wondered if she might try to trot! She can walk really fast, hehehe. Will post more update and pics here shortly, but it is time to go feed Chance again. Too much to do, never enough time. Will be back shortly! I'm back! Here are some new pics, just taken a bit ago. (They're saved as a .gif image, so the quality isn't perfect.) Chance is sure getting some muscle along her topline and on her hip! No rattling when she breathes, though she is tiring easily today. Gotta take the bad with the good right? It was 90 degrees by 9am and very humid, so I'm sure that's wearing her down some. I'll post more later, probably, but I have to get off here and see if I can reach a human at Yahoo and see about getting my email fixed. Bye for now! 8/06/02: Not a huge setback, but BOY Chance is sluggish today. I think the heat is getting to her. She's eating and drinking well, but since last night she isn't wanting to get up. Once up Chance sure doesn't want to go far. BUT- she did stand up for most of this morning's brushing, which she thoroughly enjoys! Just be praying for a cooldown please. Chance could sure use a break from this heat. 6/07/02: Today has not gotten as warm! It's under 100 degrees and a breeze is holding the humidity down. I decided to see if Chance could make it all the way across the driveway and into new territory, hehehe. She was frightened of the gravel! But once we got across Chance was very happy about the new grass. The next step is a bit closer to the fence and see what she thinks of other horses. Maybe tomorrow. I got a couple of new pics but will have to make the time later to get them on here. Knock on wood, today is a good day... 8/08/02: I got some great pics yesterday and today. Here are just a few. It was only 69 degrees whan I got up at 6:30 this morning. We are in heaven! Chance saw me coming, whinnied and hopped to her feet! I guess she feels we are getting a routine going. So I walked her over closer to Spike fenceline. He and his two pasture mates came to the fence to look. It was no big deal to them. But Chance just stared and stared. She was about 30 feet from the fence. I don't want to get her any closer to that fence, for safety reasons. (Spike is our draft stallion, and one of the mares is also a huge draft. Wouldn't want to chance them reaching over the fence and hurting baby girl.) But I sure hope to be able to let her sniff noses with one of the other horses one of these days. Doesn't seem like much, but getting Chance to that point is a big deal to us. So I've been contemplating when and how to "wean" Chance from me. I say NEVER, hehehe, but I know she would get up and around a lot more if she didn't always wait for me to tell her it's time, you know? If you have any ideas or comments about this, please post on the message board. I check it often throughout each day and most often reply. By the way, on the new pics, see Chance rolling and feeling good? Then she stopped and just laid there with her leg up over her head. What a dork but sooo cute! Also notice the one of the pressure sore on her hip. Remember it used to look terrible? it's completely covered with hair now, some white, but it looks great! More update pics, with comparison photos. Hello again! It's eveningtime, and I had to post the pics I got a little while ago. Chance got to meet another horse! The other in the pic is our TB/QH gelding, Soldier. Chance was very talkative and excited! pic 1 pic 2 Continue to page 8... |
