| Continued from page 5 7/22/02: How do you like that new pic? Look at our girl, just scootin' along! Chance is reminding me of a cute little old lady with a walker, just bebopping along, hehehe... Today's news, so far, is explained in that above photo. Here's one more of her walking and a couple others, after she was done. 7/23/02: New pics today! I'm telling you, Chance is figuring this out. She was really strolling along this morning. When she got pooped out she didn't lay right down, but she stood there looking around. I went over and started petting her, saying "what a good girl", and Chance started nickering and nudging me. I could tell she was feeling a LOT of pride. I grabbed her panful of milk, and she drank about half of it while standing. *huge PROUD OF MY BABY grin* Chance's small mouth ulcers are all gone, and the one that was huge is just a small spot now. Should be closed completely within the next few days.. I've had a lot of people ask what we plan to do about her crooked legs. Truthfully, I'm not sure yet. We've been waiting to see if she would ever stand and walk. Right now she is just starting to do that, and braces would hinder her movement, keeping Chance from being able to get up. So that's not an option right now, but maybe later. As she is walking more we will do corrective trimmings and see how much progress we gain there. At that point we'll have the vet check Chance's legs out and see what he thinks can be done. There are two joints in the back legs that will certainly keep her from standing normally. Because they weren't drained and such right at the start, the two have been permanently damaged. The bottom line on the leg issue is "wait and see for now and deal with the more pressing issues at this time." On another note, Chance's temp has been holding pretty steady at normal, or close to it. basically, everything is going well at this time. It's just about time to buy another bottle of antibiotics, ughhhhh.... That stuff is killing the pocketbook. Chance will have to be on it for months and months, to keep the septicaemia at bay until we can eradicate it altogether. 7/25/02: Chance has taken a turn for the worse. I think this stuff has now gone into her lungs. Dave is on his way home from the office, and the vet is expecting us in a couple of hours. Will post when I know something more. Just got back from the vet clinic. Chance has pneumonia but is at the beginning stages, thank God. Sulfa tabs for that, and he thinks she'll be fine, though she'll get worse before better, the vet warned me, and it will be maybe a week before I see any progress. Chance also has a stomach ulcer now, so we are starting her on omeprazole, and she was given Bantemine <sp? for the pain. Dr. Palmer said that the crooked legs are no biggy right now and later, when Chance is up and around well, he'll go in and scrape the growth plates, to get them to grow out straight. I didn't even ask what that would cost, but when I suggested splints he did say that scraping was much cheaper. Guess we'll cross that bridge later. Thank you for all the prayers. I'm so glad it isn't the septicaemia settling in Chance's lungs. 7/26/02: Today is a new day. Chance isn't sounding any better, but she isn't sounding any worse either. So I guess that's a good thing right? Her temp is holding at about 101, which is good. And she is happily drinking her milk that has the antibiotic pills dissolved in it. most horses can't stand the medicine taste, but Chance's milk has had aspirin and MSM in it ever since she started drinking the milk replacer. Guess she just doesn't know any different, thank Heavens! Thought you all might enjoy some cute photos of Chance sharing her meal with our Yorkie/Pom puppy. Too cute! I thought I figured out how to get a video clip on here, but NOPE! Still will keep trying til I get it though. But here are some new pics of Chance- comparing her walking a week or two ago, to the progress of this morning. 7/27/02: Chance is still rattling when she breathes, but I really don't think it's as bad today. Lots of people have been asking for pictures of me with Chance. Though I try hard to stay out of pics, I had Dave take a couple. Plus, here is one, below, of Chance and our Yorkie/Pom puppy. Dave saw this photo and said "Oh look, the dog is a Horse Whisperer." I just thought it was really funny-looking. Whatever Pookey is telling Chance must be funny. Just look at Chance's cheesey smile!
